Weekend Roundup

Happy Monday - at least it is for me - it is raining and I LOVE the rain. So happy day, happy day:) Had a good weekend - broke out a few "firsts", made my 12 mile run, and actually completed ALL of my laundry. Sounds awesome right?

Friday - Kids at Goddard night out = Mexican and Margarita's for me. I kept it all under control, I knew I had to get up early and run on Saturday morning. I did, however, break out a "first" - my "first" boot wearing this season. YAY... It was cool enough here - so if you looked at me all funky - "meh" - I am kicking off MY fall season this weekend. So booya!

BOOTS make me happy
Saturday - Woke my butt up early, brushed my tequila teeth, and threw on my running clothes. I actually broke out my new pull-over. So nice to finally dress in clothes I actually LOVE. Layers and leggings are my best friends. So we had a beautiful overcast and cool morning. We brought our water bottles and strategically placed them along the trail so after every 4 miles we could "wet our whistle". The run was GREAT. Laura and I talked the whole time and we made it in 2 hr 12 minutes. I honestly could of went faster, but was enjoying the pace and the conversation. I needed to vent on my weekly annoyances Eric.
So I was so happy we made it. When I got home the kids and Eric were not there - after a text to him to find out they were at the park, I laced up AGAIN and ran up to the park to spend the afternoon on the slides and swings with my babies. It was great.

That evening we had a wedding - so the kids went over to my step-mom's for the evening. An actual SPEND THE NIGHT evening. YIPS! So I took them over and came home to get ready. I actually wore my hair down to the reception - something you do not see often. Another "first".

Mel Hair
I decided to look like a secretary that night so I wore this. Excuse the chest out shot - not sure what I was doing but whateva! You get the point.

I was escorted to the reception by this hot man. Looking a little like Pujols/Diesel/Goldberg in a suit (all pluses in my book). YUM!

The reception was a blast. It was actually at the place where we had our 8th grade graduation many moons ago - ha! My girlfriends from 8th grade (Bridget & Sarah) are still my bff's today - so we hashed out our outfits from then and the nostalgia of our 8th grade boyfriends - it was a blast and trip down memory lane.

Bridget and I
It was funny that Eric and I had a WHOLE night to ourselves - we could of partied, post-partied, post-post-partied, BUT we left at 9:30 pm to get home to get in pajamas and go to bed early - a morning waking up to silence, actually drinking a cup of HOT coffee, having an adult conversation, and watching the news it too PRICELESS to drown with a hang-over. So that is what we did. We are wild.

Sunday - Had a great morning waking up listening to the fountain in our backyard with a hot cup of coffee, watching the news, and actually discussing something other than "who had the toy first". Picked up the babies and got ready for a b-day party. The girl in the pic above - well she has two boys and it was their 1st and 4th b-day dual Dr. Suess bash. So here is where all hell broke lose and another "first".

Elle was once again crying about her clothes. She was told to wear leggings and a tunic - so she could run in the park and be comfortable. She cried and cried and cried. I gave her one chance to get her clothes on - walked outside and waited - still crying when I got in. I gave her another chance, now she was screaming "I have nothing to wear" as a closet with a plethora of clothes stared back at her. My blood pressure was rising at this point so I walked away again. I finally said "when I get back in here if your clothes are NOT on - you will NOT go to the b-day party". Well... guess what... they were NOT on. So she did NOT go. That was the 1st time I stuck to my guns, and I left with Wes while she stayed home. It KILLED me - but I did it. I stuck my ground and I feel dang good about it today. She woke up today, cried for about 2.2 seconds, and then put those dang clothes on. I praised her today for her good behavior. I am hoping this is a new beginning.

Woke up to rain, good behaved children, and a nice super strong cup of joe - Happy Monday to ME!

Any help with the "clothes drama" that is brewing at my house each day? Any relatable stories?

Enjoy the beginning of the week.

  1. I'm with you on the fall clothes, love me some boots and leggings!

As far as the clothes drama goes, does she pick out her outfits at night or decide in the morning? Maybe if she had time the night before to lay out one or two outfits to choose from (Mom approved of course), the morning would go smoother. Good luck with that, I have definitely been there!

  4. Way to be strong!!! We are horrible with not following thru on our threats. Leah is turning into a horrible listener and continually testing her boundaries as we are approaching 3. ... our clothing struggle is that Leah wants to wear the same thing over and over. I let her by making her wear something clean over whatever it is. She is always wearing layers! ha!

  5. Congrats on 12 miles!!!

For the clothes, we pick them out at night so that they are set out and ready to put on the next day. We've only been doing it 2 weeks because we were battling each morning too. It is working for now :)

  6. Good luck with the clothes drama...I would have thought that started later, but it shows how much I'm in the know;-) You're going to rock your race with the 12 miles under your belt. Another 1.1 will be NBD! A quiet morning sounds like the right decision; hangover+kiddos=no fun for anyone.

  7. You look absolutely gorgeous and I love your hair down!

As far as the kid ordeal.. Mine hasn't hit that age and we don't have the 7 year old enough to have those issues.

It sounds like you had a great relaxing weekend aside from the drama!

  11. First of all you looked smokin' hot! Second, thanks for the update that it's ok to pull out the boots. You know I'm super ready for boots! Last, just brace yourself with the clothing issue and the daughter. Mine is 10 and it can be hellish! Last week we started picking out clothes the night before so we have a firm understanding the following morning. She's not a morning person nor am I and mommy doesn't play those games! Ha!
