Ch.Ch.Ch.Changes....

I am sure you are all aware of my recent effort(s) towards physical changes, but I think it is about time I throw the "mental" piece in the mix. I find that running gives me a great peace of mind - when I walk in the door after a run, I feel "refreshed" and "cleansed". I love this feeling - I want this feeling - I NEED this feeling. Running keeps me sane... It makes me feel "complete". So.... yes I will continue to run AND strength train - you know this lady loves her some weights:)

BUT... I want to try a few new things. Everyone has "stress" in their life and finding the right outlets can help with coping.

I have decided to take up Power Vinyasa Yoga classes, once a week. I am ready to pursue something different, to challenge my body, and "focus my mind". It's time!!! Read a little more about it - HERE. I will start Saturday morning classes mid March - I am HOPING I fall in love with it...

I am starting back to school in the Fall 2013. I will continue to work full-time, but I will be headed BACK into another Masters program. It's time... I have always LOVED school - I love the classroom, the atmosphere, the knowledge, and I MISS IT! My kids are older now and I feel MUCH more confident in knowing they will be "okay" while I am gone one night a week. Yep... I am doing this... I will be attending Webster University through a cohort at my current place of employment. I am nervous, I am excited, but I am READY... Your are NEVER too old to go back to school.

There are MANY more changes that will be taking place this year (just not sure how it will all come into play) - but we will see how these two go first. It's time to get my mind right.... "with the Lawd" - as Hubby Jack would say:)

Happy Monday

Yoga lover? What am I going to need? Are you currently in school - help an old lady out?

  1. Good for you for going back to school. I'm currently a year away from my Bachelor's Degree. I would love to pursue my Master's afterwards. I've gone to school most of Ella's life but have been lucky to not really have to work outside of the home. I'm sure you will do great and I will be cheering you on!

  2. I finished my masters program in August 2009. I only have one nugget to share: pay cash for the classes. Sincerely, "drowning in student loans" ps you'll do awesome at school. I see A's in your future. :)

  3. You will so great in school. It's all about balance. After partying way too hard in college and taking way more than the allotted time to graduate I know my fair share about what not to do in college. Keg stands before finals? Don't do it ( I actually did well though just didn't feel good haha) with how you schedule your life now I know you will be awesome at school again. You make time for what's important and you will find extra hours in your day for this new venture!
And I expect to see pictures of you doing that yoga
Pose by the end of march! :)

  5. I love vinyasa yoga! I always feel very relaxed after class and it definitely has improved my overall flexibility. I'd invest in a good mat and bring along a towel for the mat. That's awesome you're going back to school again. :)

  6. I'm obsessed with yoga - I hope you love it as well. Wear something form fitting (there's nothing worse than downward facing dog and your shirt going over your head), bring a water bottle, yoga mat (yoga towel if its a heated class) and go into with an open heart.

GO MEL! That's incredible you are going back to school, I went to Webster for my MBA, twinkies :) I'm sure you will do amazing at both, best wishes!

  8. Good for you! I think we could all use some mental cleansing every once in a while. Life is too stressful these days and it's easy to forget about what's important and what's not.

  9. I'm the same way with running. It's my drug of choice and keeps me from ripping heads off. Lol. I used to love power yoga. I honestly noticed the most change in my arms after I did it. So I'm sure you'll love it as well. Good luck with school. Not going back yet but in two years I'll be there too.

  13. You make me want to get back into running...like really running. For other reasons I had stopped running a few years back and I just haven't been able to jump back into like I'd like to. I SUPA DUPA miss that feeling you described! Feeling refreshed, cleansed, hell--skinny!haha
Goodluck with going back to school! I think that is great. I've been wanting my mom to go back. She is sooo smart and I hate that she wasn't able to attend college in her younger years. But you are right, you are never too old to go back.

  19. I am so proud of you for getting your 2nd Masters!!! There is no such thing as too much education. I am tossing up either getting my Masters or getting my HRIS certification. I will probably do the certification first, and then do the masters. I'm a wimp.

Thank you for such a great time last night! It is so nice to go out with girls and have ZERO drama. Can't say that happens in my normal life too much!

I feel the same way about running. It really is my peaceful time to myself. = )

  27. I'm going to my first Bikram yoga class on Thursday and I'm hoping to love it as well. I've heard running and yoga go well together :)

I'm also about to start school again, but to pick up a second bachelors (hooray nursing school), so I'll be with a bunch of 20 years olds. Good luck :)

  30. Mel! Yoga will freakin' transform your body! I started it back up this past month and can tell a difference in my muscle tone already. Just stick with it. At first, it's confusing and you're always looking up wondering what the hell cobra/up dog/down dog/tree pose/etc. are. But after a few classes, you will be able to 'flow' much better and really 'feeling' the poses. I go to a LesMills Body Flow class and sweat is just dripping off and muscles are on fire. Feels amazing! :)

  35. I'm excited to hear what you think of the yoga class, I think I would love it but haven't gotten the nerve to take a class yet, I don't know what my problem is. Going back to school is exciting!

  36. I am currently in Grad school and working full-time and have a toddler and it's HARD! I thought it would be easier since my son isn't an infant any more but it's not and with a demanding job it's all that much harder to prioritize my time. I feel like I'm constantly lacking in one area more than others but I know it will be worth it in the end. Only a year left after this May and I will have my Master's and be a principal! Just keep you head up. :)
