Kiki La'Rue Giveaway Day... and my job...

Morning my friends... One day closer to the weekend - whoop! Guess what? Tomorrow is Jeans day at my work and most of you don't know, but this is HUGE for my dept. Honestly it was just about 2 years ago that we were able to STOP wearing knee highs or hose. It was a policy that our feet MUST be covered with socks or hose at all times. After much deliberation, this policy was changed. We get to wear jeans about twice a year and once is always when the Birds (St. Louis Cardinals) start post season baseball. Soooo... thank you Cards!

I am a firm believer in professionalism in the workplace and in your everyday life - so I understood the philosophy behind this "no barefoot visible" policy. Once you change the policy for everyone - who knows what you might see? You will have some that will show up dressed business casual with cute little peep toed kitten heels on, THEN... you will have those that show up looking like they are going to the beach for the afternoon. Once you loosen the reigns - be prepared for the unexpected. I also believe that you must take risks and move with the times. You don't see that many women in hose anymore day to day - so switch it up - just make sure your policies are set even down to the detail.

If you all don't know - I love my job. I mean LOOOOOOOOOVEEEEE my job... I love getting dressed up each day and coming into the office. It makes me feel good. I love doing my hair, putting on make-up, picking out my outfits, changing shoes a million times, and/or throwing on some adorable accessories, etc... Getting myself out of bed and making myself look presentable just makes ME feel good. You all know I am a TRUE sweats and hats girl on the weekend, but during the week I take pride in being "Professional Mel".
One quote I have lived by since I started working at the little ole age 15 is "Dress for the job you want - not for the job you have". I remind myself this all the time...

On that note, thanks for listening to my rant and now for the REAL reason you are here.... The Kiki La'Rue giveaway!!!! 2. I used to not like getting dressed up for work as much, but about a month ago the hubs got a new job and he has to wear a tie every day and we started carpooling- so now I enjoy getting dressed up because I don't want to look like a slouch next to the fancy hubs outfits! :)

  3. We are getting ready to develop a "dress for your day" dress code at work. I'm skurred, You just don't know what people are going to to with the term "business casual." I've already seen what they attempt with "business professional" and it ain't pretty.

  5. I love that quote! What an awesome giveaway, I thought about getting back on the facebook for a split second just to get another entry ;) (decided against it...people on the book, or at least the people I was friends with, are cray cray!)

  6. I miss getting "dressed" for work. My current job is jeans and a white shirt. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but miss having other options.

  7. After seeing the Anheuser-Busch book you were reading for your class, I bought it for my hubby to read. He loved it! I can't wait to read it next. Thanks for sharing about it!

  9. Let's talk about the last time I saw someone wearing panty hose...uh, saturday...DURING MY HALF!!! Strangest. Moment. Ever. Home girl was straight up wearing nude hose up under her running gear...I wish this was a joke!

  10. We have a business casual policy at my office and some women take the casual part way too literally. This one lady wears "capris" (which are really just long shorts) every day. I'm pretty sure she has a pair in every color!

  11. I love to get dressed up each day too! And I am with you on what can happen when you loosen the reins! They did that where my hubby works, and some girls came in, with daisy dukes on! Ewwwwwww!! That is just wrong! Needless to say, they took away casual Friday. I work in a law office and wish they were more strict with the dress code. One attorney shows up in sweat pants!

  13. I couldn't agree with you more. The office I work in is "business casual" and it never fails to shock me what some people show up in. We do have causal Friday (jeans day) every week, though, and I do love it. I feel like putting in that effort to look professional Monday through Friday makes me enjoy my sweats and lounge pants so much more on the weekends. Happy Thursday!

  15. Great motto. Another one: Respect the position if not the person IN that position. :)

  17. We are business casual and get to wear jeans on Friday. I am not going to lie. I would love to wear jeans everyday, but I do know what you mean about people taking it a little too far :)

  18. Our policy is strictly business, we never get a jeans day (womp womp) I love getting dressed up every morning, but sometimes, I just need a casual day!!

  19. My office is pretty professional too, but recently they began to allow dressy jeans on Friday. I was so excited when they announced it, but honestly I've been wearing my usual dress clothes on most Fridays! I just feel better about myself!
