Five on Friday

I am linking up with Darci from The Good Life Blog for Five on Friday...

1. Yes THIS happened at brunch last Sunday... Gotta love my girl Kimmy.

2. Donnie Wahlberg and NKOTB - cause you all know I will be screaming it up at their concert on Sunday WITH the best EVER Boyz II Men.

3. Wes's face. Poor sweet boy had his first football accident. While chasing the ball down the street he bent over to get it and.... crash... #faceplant into the concrete. Best part... I wasn't home for this - I got the E version when I got home... THEN saw his face and freaked...

4. Elle and her pals... Girlfriends are the BEST!!! Some days I couldn't get through without them;)

5. Swedish Fish... I need to head back to Crown Candy Kitchen and order the whole bundle of these. I will be saying sianara to them come Monday.. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! Me love you long time...

Alright... it's the freakin weekend my friends... Tomorrow I am getting up EARLY for a good ole 6 mile run to start this "eating right and getting my body in SVELTE shape" July challenge. Time to get my booty in gear and start pushing myself - let's see how long before I break. Mwah ha ha ha ha...**Disclaimer: I cannot give up Corona... and OUT!!!!

P.S... you know good ole Google Reader goes ADIOS this weekend.. if you are not following me on bloglovin - you can by clicking the button right over hurrrr------------------------------------->
I would miss you too much if you were gone....

Weekend ON

Cut it down and July it's ON!

Hey everyone. Sorry I was M.I.A. yesterday - life has been crazy so I needed a day with a FEW tasks... not a million:)

It's almost July and guess what that means? Half Training begins AGAIN... I am running the Fort4Fitness Half Marathon in Ft. Wayne, IN on Sept 28th and this lady wants to run it in under 2 hrs... I want to KILL THIS HALF... Probably doesn't help I hear there are TONS of people going and my inner "competitive patty" starts to rear her head;)

I pulled my Half Training schedule out and I am going to use this one HERE... I know I should probably do the Intermediate but, honestly... nah... I like this one... AND... my training starts on July 5th... Next week, Monday is July 1st and how PERFECT for me to start on a Monday and the "First of the month - cash your checks and come on".

I started this "June Goals" thing at the beginning of the month - you can read it HERE. I went and checked it out and honestly I hit TWO - PR'd at the GO All American 5K Race AND...... cut my dead ends off. LOL... Not what I would call a WIN/WIN!!!! I have decided to shorten my goals for July - I had WAAAAAAYYY too many this month and I am a pretty simple girl... KEEP IT SIMPLE...

SO... here are 2 things I am going to do in July:

1. Follow the half training schedule and DO NOT deviate... I mean if a Monday doesn't work - do it Tuesday.. but keep up the weekly miles.

2. Legs twice a week and upper body twice a week - I am going to split this up to shorten my daily strength training workouts... With all the running I need to still have SOMETIME... so I am going to split...

And... finally my FULL Marathon Training starts on Sept 14th... the day I am signed up for my FIRST TOUGH MUDDER. AGH!!!! I am running the St. Jude Full Marathon on December 7th in Memphis and I can't wait.... I believe I am going to use this full training schedule HERE...

Now... I want to be 10-15 lbs thinner by the FULL - I really want to see how far I can push myself on this race - plus less booty bopping around while running = faster Mel and maybe ONE DECENT finish line pic. So goal by December - shed 10-15 lbs. That agenda to come....

Alright so July 1st... I am going to take BEFORE pics... to keep myself accountable. I AM going to weigh myself ONCE a week (hate the scale) and post about it - regardless. Womp.Womp.Womp. bear with me... AND.. on July 31st I am going to take AFTER pics... Woot - Woot...

Oh... and I have a few more halves thrown into October and one I am dressing up as a Spice Girl... YEAH YA!!!! I have FULLY become addicted to racing and I LOVE IT! And... this HERE floated across my email yesterday - how can I NOT sign up for this... Chocolate PLUS Ronald McDonald Charities. Now this IS a win/win...

Whose gonna train with me? Before and After pics in July with me? Goals for July?

Weekend Shenanigans in the Lou

I am sure you read the recaps of the weekend from Holly, Ashley, Amanda, Kimmy etc... Now let's read a little of my take on the weekend... If you follow me on IG you might have seen a few - if you don't follow me - get your booty over there - I am IG freak @missmel_joy... (yeah I still haven't switched to 4kottez....yet)

Friday night... Elle's recital night - she worked it... She was a beautiful little dancing darling...

Then I met up with the girls on Main St. in St. Charles for a few nightcaps;) #youknowIbeawalker

Saturday: Crown Candy Kitchen madness, Schlafly Brewery Tour, and Casa Kotte patio shenanigans... Laughed until my face hurt... Ate and drank like there was no tomorrow... and loved every minute of it...

Sunday: Woke up to the sweet sounds of Wes man.... and his new found love Olive Betty... ate more... and said our farewells...

FYI... you know I cleaned the HECK out of my house as soon as the cars drove off my driveway.. hahaha. Break out the 7 vacuums... cause that's how I roll.... Oh and the girls KNOW me --- they made the bed, picked up their shoes, didn't leave stuff on the ground, and made fun of me the whole time... True Friendship for the girl with the cleaning disorder.

STL Baby... Good friends...Great times...Sad to see them go... Until next time...

July I am going to start my own challenge... I can't wait to tell you all about it... I am even going to do before and after pics... Yeah... you all know that's what you want to see... VISUALS PEOPLE!! LOL... I have to get this booty in shape for my half in September in Ft. Wayne... and I want to be 10 lbs thinner - I want to FLY through this race... So I HAVE to get down to biznaz!!!

Bacon fan? Goals for July? How many vacuums do you own?

Don't you wish your....

Thank you ALL for linking up with us last week for the "Wedding Details" link up with my good friend Holly. If you don't know - I have made it a RULE... that when you host a link-up you are automatically given an ETO day after - so no blogging on Friday for me... (Yes I make up my own rules)

Now... my girl K9Bish (blogless) shot me her "Wedding Details" story because she knows she wishes she had a blog;) So I had to post... Ummm... K9Bish - I need pics... People like visuals girl... hahaha.

Background on K9Bish - super gorgeous tall drink of water - always put together - mouth of a sailor - and most sarcastic person I know... Now remember these details...

So.... here is her post... Now go get ya blog girl - tell HJ to hook you up and you will swap him a 314 hat...

The engagement: I was ready for my bling, been dreaming about this my whole life. So when Jerret suggested we go camping one weekend (I lived in Saint Louis and he lived in Fulton), I knew what was coming. So the forecast came and predicted rain.  Oh, hell no!  We were GOING camping!  So I pretended that I love camping in the rain, drove to Fulton, and prepared to accept the ring by practicing the whole drive there.  Jerret takes me to his secret spot..........umm is this even a park?  Oh wait it's dove hunting season and we are just camping in a random spot in the woods.  No campground here people.  So bam, bam, bam is what we hear all weekend.  We try and go for a hike, but the trail ends in a swamp and I was covered in mosquito bites.  This will not stop me.  I keep waiting and waiting for the proposal, it gets dark.  Jerret takes me to a cliff to watch the sunset, but it's actually setting behind us- I pretend I don't notice.  It's now really dark outside and he finally proposes with a ring box that lights up (this is why we waited until it was dark). I say yes, jump up and down, trip on a root of the tree, and almost fall off of the cliff.  I then try and call my mom, BFF, brother to find out that I have no cell service.

The wedding: Let me start by stating that my parents got a loan to pay for my wedding.  We wanted a small wedding at the Butterfly house in Chesterfield.  I wanted an outside wedding and this was it.  We invited 150 people and wed under a canopy with a reception in a tent off of the lake.  Good weather and I was so excited.  My dad was really sick, but he was able to attend and nothing could go wrong.............except for the ceremony.  Jerret left our rings in the trunk of the car and decided not to tell anyone! So we go through the motions of putting on pretend rings- AWESOME!  In the middle of the pastor (his aunt) talking, he decides to kiss me- WHAT! He said he thought she said "you may now kiss the bride!" So he wasn't listening! The reception was nice except for our best man was missing in action- apparently he was smoking and his fiance didn't know he smoked and they were having an epic argument.  My BFF gave a speech about the worst fight we ever had.  Truley amazing!

The honeymoon: We went to Belize and stayed in the Francis Ford Coppola resort because we thought Jerret's parents would help pay for the honeymoon- ya that never happened! Amazing place where Jerret decided to demonstrate his ADHD.  Within one hour of arriving, he had done every activity they had. So the following day we toured the rainforest.  Don't ever wear shorts in the rainforest- I was trying to look cute.  I was covered in bug bites and woke up in the middle of the night with swollen legs, convinced that the housekeepers put bed bugs in the bed because we didn't tip them enough.  I think I was hallucinating from malaria. Other than that, was amazing!

There you have it folks... Since I am such a stellar friend and let K9Bish hog my blog today, I will recap the weekend tomorrow and I have to get back to FITNESS!!! Time to get back on track (isn't that what we say every Monday - oh wait... is that just me?)

Have a Great Monday

So.... here we are... and here is how it goes... Grab the button below and link up... If you had a wedding, or had multiple, are going to have one, have one in your mind pinterest board, and/or are NEVER going to have one - LINK UP!!! I wanna read about the details... Grab the button below and tell us... Here are a few questions that might help and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me your wedding song... I GOTTA KNOW!!!

What would you do different?
Now... let's finally get to mine and a side of Mel you might not have known. You all know my goal in life is to be a STAR, or to get Elle in a Disney show so I can move to Cali... BUT you might NOT have known my TRUE thoughts on the full blown wedding... So you would think I would absolutely go NUTS about throwing my own party and parading around in that dress. WRONG....

Guess what? We took the money instead and bought a house... Now... I had a small wedding (70 people or so) and here are my deets:

Wedding Location: Catholic Church... Father Leach called us Eric and Erica (My name is Melanie). Stellar. Oh and our driver ended up being a guy I had known in high-school... That was awkward...

Reception Location: Pietro's - The BEST Italian Restaurant - because good food and strong drinks were the only things I cared about... - Nailed it...

Colors: NONE... kind of light pink/champagne/cream - I guess? I didn't really have any.

Bridal Party: My mom was my Maid of Honor and E's Dad was the Best Man - that was IT. No one else...

First Dance Song: The Eagles..."Love Will Keep Us Alive". E's choice... I was like "dude where is Brown Eyed Girl on this one?". Whatever... Eagles it was... and yes it would not have been my choice - but I don't think my grandma would of enjoyed some of my gangsta song choices...

Honeymoon: We married on May 14, 2005 we waited for the honeymoon and went to Jamaica in December of 2005. That's a whole post in itself. There were puking in plant stands, climbing of a waterfall that resulted in an a huge argument, this hideous pineapple shirt, a guy who played the saxophone outside of our room nonstop and the SAME song day and night, a traumatizing couple's massage, and a bumpy bus ride that will haunt my backside forever.

Basically it went down like this... We had a "wedding" per say - it was small and those who were invited, we were REALLY close to. I got to wear the dress - 2 actually... I had a wardrobe change before we went out that night (yes after the reception we stayed out downtown all night with friends).

But in all honesty... I know they say a girls dream is this big elaborate wedding - it just wasn't mine. We took the moolah and bought a house - 50 grand for one party I just can't fathom... NOT ONE BIT... that paid for my PMI... To each their own... If I had to do it all over... I would take the money again, wear my hair down, and have bought a dress like this (way more me):

Now I wanna hear your deets... Link up with us and share...

It's been awhile...

It's been awhile since I did a post on just some AWESOME randomness...So here's a little bit of what I have in mind... my crazy whacked out mind...

- Elle... it has been sometime since I posted on her wardrobe craziness. Saturday we had an EPIC meltdown at my in-laws. We get there and they have a pool for the kids to swim in. I brought Elle's new swimsuit and she puts it on - to discover that the pink flower has bleed through a bit when I washed it. She tears it off, falls on the ground, and cries that she "will NOT wear something that is damaged". This melt down happened for 30+ minutes.... We used Oxy Clean, Bleach Pen, straight bleach.... nothing worked... she continued to melt... Finally... I had to leave to pick up my dog from the groomers... I get back and *VOILA* Elle is happy... Not sure what happened or why - but the moment I left "angel Elle" arrived... and guess what - she had the freakin suit on....

- Wes... honestly I can sum him up in a few words - CRAZY NON STOP... He never quits - he is all boy
and tends to amaze me in every way... For real... I think my sides hurt each night, not from my ab workout,
but from laughing at his craziness. Just a few Wes updates....
- Branson - at the pool - he pulls down his pants in the middle of the splash area and begins to pee in front of everyone into the water... Is this appropriate?... I think not...
- He uses inappropriate words and has taken a liking to spitting and kicking - why? Cause he is obsessed with wrestling and now he no longer gets to watch it... Womp.Womp.Womp.
- Take a look at this pic closely... For real - Hitler with his tongue out... Say what? Who acts like this?

- Saturday's Mud Run... K9Bish and I decided to hit up Cliff Cave for a nice little 5 mile run. FYI... St. Louis has been flooded and this trail floods - it is right on the Mississippi river - but it recedes nicely and usually stays fairly well. So we run... We get to mile 2.5 and the dusty mud turns to quick sand... My feet STICK... I mean STICK... I can't move - I try to pull up my right foot and my foot comes out of my shoe, the shoe is stuck in the mud and my sock foot flies immediately straight in the mud. One shoe on stuck in the mud, the other a sock foot in the mud. I am screaming "Laura I don't function like this - I don't do mud or the wilderness - this is not what I signed up for today - my foot is in the mud - there are snakes about to come out of the woods - and I swear I am going to die here". She is laughing so hard she can't breathe. Finally we get loose... I take the mud sock off - hold it in my hand - and run with one sock on and one sock off for another 2 miles. My kicks weighed like bricks from the mud... GAWD it was a crazy morning, but when we finished it was a KILLER run... What are friends for?

- Music... when is music NOT something I think about. Monday night's leg workout consisted mostly of me dancing in the basement to some good ole dance fav's... HA..

Holly, Ashley, Kimmy, Amanda - get ready I request this EVERY time I am out dancing. Probably one of my all time favorite songs to dance to. Weekend ON!!!

Must listen to this version - the Cirkut Remix... KILLER!!! In love with this chick.
Alright on that note - link up time. It's wedding season and who doesn't love to discuss their wedding - past, present, future... Oh wait you haven't met me yet? LOL... The "Real Deal Mel" will be rearing her head on Thursday and you might not have "thunk" it?

Anyways....One of my favorite questions to ask people is "What was your wedding song" - I think it tells a lot about that person (couple)... and I am nosey;) So.... Thursday Holly and I are hosting a fun linkup!!!! We want to know your wedding details!!!! Come share in the fun... Thursday baby!!!

Here are a few questions you might want to use for the post...

GO STL 5K All American Race Re-cap

Sunday - June 16th was the Go St. Louis 5K All American Race that I had been signed up for - for quite sometime... I wanted to run a short race in a different area in St. Louis, rather than the usual in downtown STL. This race was in Kirkwood - you ran from Kirkwood - Webster... Beautiful  homes, flat course, and a smaller race...

Woke up at 5:10 a.m. - got myself together (ate a Luna bar, piece of string cheese, downed a ton of water, and drank my pre-race coffee) and headed out the door to my SIL's house to meet with the group I was running with. When I woke up it was raining and HUMID as hell... Still telling myself I MUST hit this race at 26 minutes or under....

I was running this race with my SIL (first race since having her son 10 weeks ago), her brother (first race EVER), and their friend Stephanie... We arrived in Kirkwood - hit up the Johnny's and stood in the pouring rain until the race started.

Now.... I noticed something... these runners were not what I typically see at races.. I mean these runners, people, these runners.... 98% of them were in TIP TOP shape AND.... in lululemon gear. If you live in St. Louis you get my joke... If not... Kirkwood be the rich area.... "says the girl from South County".

So we started the race with the "Star Spangled Banner" - unfortunately I couldn't hear it because my "Back that Azz up" radio was blaring the Ying Yang Twins... and the race started with a little 2Pac...

I went out too FAST (why do I do this? I know better) the first mile I looked at my watch and I ran it in 7:41 - for real... WHY??? I know to go out slower and then speed up at the end - I just HATE dodging those people in the beginning.... and want AWAY from the crowd and FAST... So I push through fast to have my "open road" BUT it takes a toll on me... AND... the humidity was HIGH... I told myself to slow my roll on the 2nd and 3rd mile - so I did... I ran the second mile right around 8:30 and then the 3rd around 8:40 something...

I did partake in the water station around mile 2 and I TRIED to tell myself to STOP looking at my watch and stop the mind games... the humidity was making my breathing HEAVY... but I pushed through...

I finished in 26:41... Yes a PR and a great run - I ran hard... I mean FREAKING HARD!!! but I know that last mile I could of pushed it more... I KNOW this... I could of sped up and gunned it... but I didn't - I kept telling myself "this humidity is choking the crap out of you" and that weighed out in my mind more than my "Mel motivation thoughts". Ugh... Whomp.Whomp.Whomp... Mel's "motivation Thoughts" 0 - Mel's "your going to die thoughts" 1.

The race itself was great. The course was EXCELLENT for PR running and I love that this race was smaller. At the end there was the typical food, water, etc... and BOMB POPS - I mean come on - who wouldn't run 3.1 miles for a flippin BOMB POP? I will do this race again... yes I will... and I WILL get under 26 min - maybe even next year around 24 min;)

So proud of my SIL for getting back out there just 10 weeks postpartum and for her brother and his first race under his belt.... So wonderful experiencing this with the BOTH of them...

Side Note***... Don't wear your race bib on your back and think your race photos will be of you... I went in to go look at mine on the internet and yep... Not me... it was the lady behind me... Oh well - one less sick pic of me floating around out there;)

Happy Running....

Run this weekend? PR? Ever feel disappointed not meeting your goal?

Letter to my 21 Year Old Self....

Well Well Well it's link up time with two of my favs... Holly and Jake... Time for a good ole letter to my 21 year old self... Now let me preface, by saying I turn 33 in August - so this would be quite sometime ago...

button

Dear 21 Year Old Mel...

~ It's amazing that you love your college career and have found your "calling" but time will tell that you are meant to follow a different path.

Where's Mel
~ I know it is hard living with 5 girls and sharing a "garage" with your bff, but it will teach you the true meaning of friendship... sacrifice and unconditional love.

~ You think you love Goldschlager now... Girl... just wait until the end of this year - you will never EVER drink it again... Two heads in a toilet is NO FUN...

~ Those sweet leather pants and backless shirts you wear... yeah... probably not the best idea for your Christmas card...

~ That boy that rides his bike to class, fights everyone at the drop of the hat, makes up his own raps, jumps in fires, walks aimlessly with not a care in the world, flexes in the mirror, tries to stay out of jail, etc ... he will grow up one day and quit one of the things mentioned;)

Yes he has a black eye... What's New?
~ Going away to college and finding your way will be the BEST decision you ever made in your life - don't EVER EVER EVER forget that. Encourage your kids to go away one day, just as your parents did you...

Wonder where I get "crazy" from - just ask my Dad:)
~ Your New Orleans Mardi Gras trip will be one the MOST memorable trips in your life... Read about it HERE...

~ Good ole Sammy the Saturn is a good car... Cut her some slack and be a little more gentle with her - all those trips back and forth with kegs in the trunk for your huge parties, will lead to much wear and tear...

~ Your HUGE Burg House Parties will be EPIC and people will still talk about them LONG after they are gone... So instead of running the vacuum under people's feet while they are making out on your couch, asking people to use coasters when they can barely see straight, and/or kicking out all the girls that are acting "sluttastic" - sit back... have fun... one day you will WISH for these parties again.

~ You know how you think your legs are huge and you can't stand your lips/mouth... you will grow up one day and appreciate that smile... It's one of your best assets. Smiling is what makes you - you! Those legs you will always want to work on, but they will carry you MANY MANY MANY miles that you never dreamed you would go.

~ Yes he STILL calls but soon the calls will fade and so will the "what ifs?".

~ Your a good soul Mel... have a good heart... have much compassion...don't let anyone try to tell you otherwise... Never let other people's negativity bring you down... Your better than that... Don't be impressionable - stand up for you - your worth it!
